| Karlovy Vary is the largest and most famous resort in Czech republic located in 120 km from Prague in a picturesque valley surrounded with mountains (krushnymi) at merge of two rivers (tepla i Ogrze).
The city was based by the Czech king and Roman emperor Charles 4 about 1350. By the legend, hunting in this area the king has wounded a leg and cured it with a help of local hot springs.The development of the city was always connected with a medical effect of 12 hot and 1 cold mineral springs with temperatures ranging from 7,9 to 72 degrees Celsius. Termal waters have an unique chemical structure. Such water is not present anywhere in the world. Karlovy Vary is known for the treatment of metabolism and gastric diseases.
About 85 000 people from 70 countries of the world visit the resort every year and around 2 millions visiters stay here shortly.The city is situated not far from the german border and has its airport.
The population of the city is 56000 people. Karlovy Vary is a city of romantic architecture and famous colonnades with their curative springs, the place of walks in picturesque parks and forests. During the last years lots of hotels and SPA centres were built in the resort zone for attraction of foreign tourists.
International film-festivals and congresses, musical festivals, meetings of outstanding political figures of the world, culture, sience. It consists of casinos, a large open-air theater, a theater, an art gallery and a number of concert and other halls.
The city provides a wide opportunities for amateurs of sport: golf, tennis, there is an oldest hippodrome in Czech republic (1899), an open-air heated pool, etc. Karlovy Vary has become famous also by wold-known traditional prodacts: glass, porcelain, liquor “Becherovka” made of 20 kinds of medical herbs, mineral water Mattoni, wafers, geyzer salt. And, nevertheless, the main reason of visiting of this town-resort is the effectivity of the classical resort treatment which is improved here during 600 years.
