With it's Old Town almost encircled by the River Vltava, Cesky Krumlov is a jewel of historical architecture in Southern Bohemia.
A steep walk through the old town will lead you to Cesky Krumlov Castle, the largest preserved feudal residence in the country after Prague Castle. The most ancient parts of the magnificent castle. date from the 14th century, during the 16th century it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style and later enriched with Baroque additions. It has successively been the residence of the Rozmberk, Eggenberg and Schwarzenberg families.
The castle is surrounded by lovely gardens. The gardens, with its fountain, under-cover riding school and a charming summer house offer a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. There is also an open-air theatre with a revolving auditorium, an ideal setting for theatre performances in the summer.
